New Orleans East Climate Vulnerability Assessment & Green Infrastructure Project

Cropped from NASA Landsat image.The goal of this project is to create a greener, healthier, and more climate-resilient New Orleans East by conducting a Climate Vulnerability and Risk Assessment to inform the development and implementation of transformative green infrastructure adaptation strategies that reduce extreme heat. Through data-driven assessment and local engagement, the project will support long-term improvements in health and safety and prepare the community for existing and future climate challenges.Project Activities
Climate Vulnerability & Risk Assessment – Combine quantitative data analysis with community-led workshops and stakeholder engagement to assess climate risks specific to New Orleans East.
Community Outreach & Education – Create accessible materials to share findings and foster ongoing conversations about local climate vulnerabilities and adaptation strategies.
Green Infrastructure Implementation Plan – Develop a targeted plan to expand the urban tree canopy in priority areas of New Orleans East.
Tree Planting Initiative – Partner with the New Orleans East Green Infrastructure Collective, the Department of Parks and Parkways, and local residents to plant trees and enhance neighborhood resilience.
